About

I am a cognitive neuroscientist that is especially interested in (a)typical language development. My work employs a combination of brain imaging, especially (f)MRI and DTI, and behavioral methods to learn more about how children process and develop language. I love the interdisciplinary nature of my work as it allows me to better understand the fascinating way that our brains process language while also making a clinical impact.

My current project, titled BRight, is funded by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the European Commission and focuses on right hemispheric pathways for language in autistic children (see also https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101198645). Before starting at the Donders Institute, I worked in the Brain Development Lab at Vanderbilt University in Nashville with dr. James Booth as a postdoctoral researcher. I conducted my doctoral studies at Ghent University, Belgium on the Preschool Brain Imaging and Behaviour Project (PIP) by AIMS-2-TRIALS (https://www.aims-2-trials.eu/pip/) and completed a bachelors in Dutch, a bachelor in Linguistics and a master in Neurolinguistics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

In my spare time I enjoy traveling, running and taking care of my plants!
